Mr Fothergill’s RHS Turnip Tokyo Cross F1 Seeds 500 Seeds, Award Winning Fast Growing White Turnip

Description

RHS Turnip Tokyo Cross F1 Seeds by Mr Fothergill’s produce smooth, porcelain white roots with a fine texture and deliciously mild flavour. This exceptionally fast growing F1 hybrid variety is ideal for gardeners looking for reliable results, continuous harvests and versatile kitchen use.

Botanically known as Brassica rapa Rapifera, Tokyo Cross F1 develops uniform round roots that can be harvested at different stages. Pick young for tender baby turnips, perfect for salads and light cooking, or allow to mature to approximately the size of a tennis ball for fuller flavour and texture.

This variety holds the RHS Award of Garden Merit for consistent performance and dependable cropping. It is part of the seed range produced by Mr Fothergill’s in partnership with the Royal Horticultural Society.

Tokyo Cross F1 is suitable for growing in open ground or in large containers, making it ideal for smaller gardens, raised beds and patio growing. It is particularly well suited to successional sowing, ensuring a steady supply from early summer through to autumn.

For outdoor sowing, sow from April to September in a prepared seed bed. Sow thinly in rows 30cm apart and cover with approximately 1.5cm of fine soil. Firm gently and keep moist. Seedlings appear in 14 to 21 days.

For continuous crops, sow every 2 to 3 weeks. When large enough to handle, thin seedlings to 10cm apart. Keep well watered and weed free to maintain tender growth.

Harvest from June to October. Lift alternate plants to allow others to develop fully. For baby turnips, harvest at approximately golf ball size for the sweetest flavour.
