Description
Panicum virgatum 'Heavy Metal, also known as 'Finger Grass', is a beautiful, relatively slow-growing ornamental grass with tight upright growth. From June to August, it blooms with beautiful white to pale pink fluffy flower spikes. The plant is deciduous, so it will drop its leaves in late autumn/early winter. In spring, the beautiful grey-green to blue-grey leaves will reappear, turning to an autumnal reddish-brown in autumn. This ornamental grass can grow up to 125 to 150 cm high, but will take several years to do so. The plant is suitable as a solitary, but does best in groups.
Care
Panicum Heavy Metal prefers a place in the sun. The plant does well in any soil that is not wet, but prefers dry to moist, slightly acidic soil. It is important to give the plant sufficient water in drier seasons. It is advisable to prune the plant back to 10-20 cm above the ground every year in March. This will keep the ornamental grass healthy and you will soon see new shoots.
Size
The plant has a height of 40-60cm upon delivery, measured including the nursery pot. The plant is supplied in a nursery pot with a diameter of 23cm.
